Since its inception in 1999, SHENU Sanctuary has been rooted in activism and community service.
Queen Mother Imakhu is a lifelong activist, former Vice-President of National Action Network Newark NJ Chapter, current member of People's Organization for Progress, member of Newark Interfaith Clergy Alliance, I AM (Interfaith Action Movement), and the National Black Council of Elders. She teaches that ministry is about changing the world by being personally responsible and accountable. According to ancient Khametic philosophy, we each must be active in making our lives, families, neighborhoods, and worlds better.
SHENU Ashram has an active community food distribution ministry, political legislation ministry, prayer and sick visitation ministry, and multimedia outreach ministry.
